About Us
Maine Community Power Cooperative (MCPC) is a mission-driven start-up working to accelerate the clean energy transition by developing and delivering community solar projects that benefit Maine residents, businesses, and municipalities. As a cooperative, we are member-owned and rooted in a commitment to equity, sustainability, and local economic empowerment.
Position Overview
We’re seeking an energetic, mission-driven team member to help grow and support our community of member-owners. You’ll split your time between:
- Community Engagement (50%) – Recruit members, foster partnerships, represent MCPC at events, and create content for outreach and social media.
- Member Support (50%) – Assist members and prospective members via email, phone, and support tickets, ensuring they have a seamless experience.
You’ll work closely with our Community Engagement Manager and Operations Director, and you’ll have real ownership over improving our member experience and engagement strategy as we grow.
Key Responsibilities
In the first 3 months you will:
- Learn our mission, model, and operations inside out.
- Take ownership of customer support hours and member troubleshooting.
- Create a content strategy and posting schedule for social media marketing.
- Represent MCPC at in-person and virtual events.
- Collaborate on messaging, resources, and outreach campaigns.
In the first 6 months you will:
- Serve as a public-facing leader for MCPC at events across the state.
- Represent our unique business model and vision — and communicate what sets us apart.
- Maintain regular content creation and social media marketing.
- Own and continuously improve our member experience and support strategy.
- Support the growth of our cooperative to 1,000 members.
Qualifications
- 2+ years in marketing, community engagement, or organizing roles.
- Strong communicator, comfortable with public speaking and diverse audiences.
- Tech troubleshooting skills (e.g., browser settings, video call issues).
- Experience in graphic design and social media marketing.
- Problem-solver who thrives in a growing, changing start-up.
- Familiarity with renewable energy programs (preferred, not required).
Additionally, candidates must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle. This position will include travel throughout the state. MCPC pays/reimburses for travel expenses.
Why Join Us?
This is a rare opportunity to join a company at a critical growth point and have a direct hand in shaping its strategy for building and engaging a community. You’ll touch every part of the business and help us design systems, strategies, and teams that scale.
- Be part of a purpose-driven start-up shaping Maine’s energy future.
- Collaborative and mission-aligned team culture.
- Competitive salary and paid time off.
- Opportunity for professional growth and leadership within a growing organization.
- Flexible work schedule with a strong commitment to work-life balance. Option to work remotely, at Portland-based co-working space, and/or at Norway office.
