Our Community Solar Program
Our first two Harrison projects launched in January 2026, powering 100 Maine households. We are working to develop additional projects throughout Maine.

You will receive a bill from PowerMarket for your solar credits. This bill will look different than your old MCPC bills. You will be charged for the solar credits you receive at a discount of 10%, 15%, or 20%. You'll also receive a fixed discount which includes a portion of the cost of the CMP service charge and the first 50 kWh supply charge. This fixed discount ensures that you actually save 10%, 15%, or 20% off of the cost of a full-price CMP bill. You can also see what your PowerMarket dashboard will look like here.

Yes! You can sign up for autopay with PowerMarket for the cost of your solar credits, and CMP autopay for your utility bill (fixed delivery charges, any extra electricity charges, and utility fees).
No. When you are assigned to an MCPC solar project, PowerMarket will create an account for you and send an activation email to log in and manage your account. You do not need to sign up separately on the PowerMarket website.
No. When you are assigned to an MCPC solar project, PowerMarket will update your old PowerMarket account. You’ll use the same PowerMarket account to manage your MCPC community solar subscription.
If you do not want to make the switch, that’s ok. Just let us know by emailing support@mainecommunitypower.com. We’ll cancel your MCPC membership and refund your membership share.
If you are on the waitlist, no action is needed at this time. We’ll let you know when a spot opens up and when to cancel your existing subscription.
You can reach out to PowerMarket customer support with any questions related to billing. The MCPC team will still be around to answer any questions about the cooperative and your membership.
PowerMarket will monitor your usage every month and adjust your allocation percentage regularly to ensure that the credits you receive match your electricity usage over the course of the year. Check out this article to learn more about the fixed allocation model: Understanding Your Bill: MCPC Fixed Credit Allocation.
If you are on an alternative delivery rate, your community solar savings may be lower than expected, or you may not save at all.
Time of Use Rate: If your on-peak electricity usage is under 5%, subscribing to community solar could actually increase your overall costs. If your on-peak usage is above 5%, you will still see savings, though your exact amount depends entirely on how much on-peak power you use.
Electric Technology Rate: You will save less than our advertised 10%, 15%, or 20% discounts.
Read this article for more information on how these rates work with community solar: Understanding Your Costs: Alternative Delivery Rates and Community Solar.
No. You should not subscribe to our community solar program, or any other, if you are enrolled in the CMP SimplePay program. Subscribing to a community solar program while still enrolled in CMP’s SimplePay program may significantly increase your electricity costs.
If you receive close to or more than $350/year in LIHEAP/LIAP benefits, you should not subscribe to a community solar program as it may increase your electricity costs. If you receive a lower benefit amount (e.g., less than $200/year) you can still save on your electricity costs. You can read this article to learn more: Understanding Your Costs: LIHEAP/LIAP and Community Solar.
No, you will never pay for credits that you do not use. You are only billed for solar credits when they are applied to your utility bill to offset your electricity usage.
If you anticipate a significant change in your electricity usage (like buying an electric vehicle or installing heat pumps) you can notify PowerMarket customer support in advance to ensure your allocation percentage is adjusted promptly.
The Cooperative
Our cooperative is member-owned and non-extractive, keeping energy dollars circulating in Maine. Our member-owners, Board of Directors, staff, and installation partners are all based right here in Maine.
The cooperative is made up of member-owners: residential and small business (SGS) customers of Central Maine Power. When you join the cooperative and subscribe to our community solar program, you become a member-owner.
The cooperative is governed by a Board of Directors, made up entirely of member-owners.
The Board oversees the operation of the cooperative on behalf of all member-owners. Members vote on decisions about how the cooperative is run at our Annual Meeting each spring.
This model ensures that decisions impacting our members are always made by members, for members.
The Board is made up entirely of member-owners who are subscribers to our community solar program. You can learn more about the Board on the About page.
Members can run for a seat on the Board at our Annual Meeting each spring. If you're interested in learning more, keep an eye out for updates in our monthly email newsletters or email secretary@mainecommunitypower.com.
A membership share represents your ownership stake in the cooperative.
It is a one-time payment that gives you full membership rights, including access to cooperative services, and voting privileges. Your membership share is fully refundable if you choose to leave the cooperative.
MCPC is still cooperatively owned and run by members like you. Members will continue to receive a full 10, 15, or 20% discount including fixed charges. We are still the only cooperative community solar provider in Maine and offer the highest possible discount for income-eligible members.
The changes to net energy billing made by the legislature last year posed challenges to MCPC’s plans to grow the cooperative and build additional projects to match membership growth.
With support from you (our members), community partners, and key supportive legislators, we were able to successfully pass LD1966 which provided a stop-gap measure for MCPC to continue building projects until the successor program to NEB is established later this year. Due to this and additional challenges on the federal, state, and utility levels, we are taking steps to reduce operating costs and continue to provide the greatest possible discount for members. We will reach out with additional updates as we continue to plan for the future of the cooperative.
Any residential or small business (SGS) customers of Central Maine Power (CMP) is eligible to join the cooperative.
We are temporarily pausing new member enrollment. Our projects are currently full. We'll begin enrolling new members as soon as we have available capacity in future solar projects. You can stay up to date by subscribing to our newsletter.
You can reach out to support@mainecommunitypower.com to cancel your membership at any time. We'll cancel your membership and refund your membership share payment.
If you're subscribed to one of our solar projects, we will let PowerMarket know and they will cancel your subscription for you. Depending on the date of your cancellation, you may still be billed for 1-2 billing cycles.
Join us at the MCPC annual meeting on October 3rd from 10am to 12pm at the Center for an Ecology-Based Economy office in Norway, Maine. The Board of Directors will share updates from the past year and plans for the future of the cooperative.
You can also join the Board of Directors. Any member of the cooperative is encouraged to join the Board of Directors. The Board will steward MCPC into its next phase. You can get in touch with a member of the Board to learn more about their work and what it means by emailing secretary@mainecommunitypower.com.
Unlike other community solar programs, the cooperative owns its entire portfolio of solar projects and controls the rates charged to members.
The Board reviews utility rates and operational costs to approve rates annually. While rates may be adjusted to cover the cost of operating the cooperative, members are not exposed to the energy price volatility experienced in the open market.
If rates do increase in the future, members are not locked into long term contracts and can cancel their memberships at any time.
