Hi all –
MCPC Members Save on Electricity Costs
Last week, members assigned to Forest Keep Solar Farm in Harrison, Maine, received their first solar credits. On average, members saved $41 on their electricity costs last month! There is still capacity in these projects, and we're working to deliver savings to more low- to moderate-income households. You can learn more about how our community solar program works on our website, and check out more information for low- to moderate-income households.
Energy, Utilities, & Technology (EUT) Committee Approves LD 1966
Last week, the Energy, Utilities, & Technology (EUT) Committee passed LD 1966: An Act to Improve Access to Community Solar Programs in the State. This bill seeks to increase transparency in utility and community solar billing and to solve a number of issues introduced in a bill passed last year. Importantly, this bill also allows Maine Community Power Cooperative to continue delivering electricity bill savings for Mainers.
Thank you to our members and partners – including Maine Conservation Voters (MCV), MCAN, Center for an Ecology-Based Economy (CEBE), and Our Power – who took action. Together, over 2000 electricity ratepayers contacted their legislators and supporting this bill!
There is more work to do!
LD 1966 now heads to the full Senate and House later this year. We'll share updates and calls to action in our regular email newsletters.
If you're interested in getting more involved and supporting electricity price stability, bill transparency, and the development of cooperatively-owned solar power, email us at community@mainecommunitypower.com.
