Beginning in July 2026, Maine Community Power Cooperative (MCPC) subscriptions and billing will be handled by PowerMarket. The way you receive your MCPC community solar bill with change, but your discount and savings will remain the same. Some members using large amounts of electricity (+1000 kWh/month) will save more each month.
What's changing?
Previously, MCPC provided a custom billing platform for our members. To reduce our operational costs and ensure that we can continue to provide the largest possible savings for our members, we're moving our billing to the PowerMarket platform.
The "Pay One Bill" option is going away: members will pay their Central Maine Power (CMP) bills directly.
Your bill will be issued by PowerMarket: you will manage your account and pay your bill through the PowerMarket customer portal.
The line items on your bill will look different: your costs and savings will be represented differently, but you'll receive the same 10%, 15%, or 20% discount.
How it works
With PowerMarket, your bills will look a little different:
You will pay your CMP bill directly.
Solar credits will be applied to your bill, just like before. You will only be charged for the solar credits that you use. You will not be charged for banked credits. This ensures your costs will never be more than they would be without community solar.
You will receive a bill from PowerMarket for your solar credits. This bill will look different than your old MCPC bills. You will be charged for the solar credits you receive at a discount of 10%, 15%, or 20%. You'll also receive a fixed discount which includes a portion of the cost of the CMP service charge and the first 50 kWh supply charge. This fixed discount ensures that you actually save 10%, 15%, or 20% off of the cost of a full-price CMP bill.
Your allocation percentage may change. PowerMarket will monitor your usage every month and adjust your allocation percentage regularly to ensure that the credits you receive match your electricity usage over the course of the year. Check out this article to learn more about the fixed allocation model: Understanding Your Bill: MCPC Fixed Credit Allocation.
